The Versatile Sash.

What do you look at when you buy something? Its beauty? How it looks on you? Worth the price? We all look at those things, but when you're a college student something you indefinitely learn is to look at how versatile things can be. When I head to the store, I'm always looking at how many ways I can use one piece and that's when I go ahead and make a huge buy.

The Versatility Series

Today, I'm going to show you four ways to wear one sash. While you might say its easy and tried before, I'm show you how to turn one outfit into 4 different looks for various events, locations with spicing up of accessories and experimenting with the sash.

1. The Waistband/Belt

The first way I wore the sash is as a waistband commonly known as a belt. I just went for a simple look and tied it around like you would with another cloth belt. The belt adds definition to an otherwise plain teeshirt and accentuates your figure.

This look was completed with red pleated loafers from American Apparel and a band to add colour. You can wear this look for a day out at the mall or shopping with your friends. Very casual yet stylish. You can play with the belt and work a bow structure too.  I kept the accessories minimal and added a butterfly necklace.

2. The Scarf

After a belt the second thing I did with this look is use the sash as a scarf. When worn long and dangly scarfs look extremely elegant and graceful. The sash used as a scarf is longer than the tee shirt and adds a feminine touch to it. Kept the accessories same and added some desi chappals to go with the look. You can definitely wear this look to a reunion party or maybe a luncheon. Sometimes scarfs work really well formally too, you can work a similar look to work if you wear it with a kurta and leggings rather than a tee shirt.

3. Bow Tie

I have always wanted to wear a bow-tie and that is the first thing I did with the sash. The bow tie-esque look can be worn out to many places and this makes the bow tie another versatile item. While I did get some glances on the streets, I enjoyed thoroughly. Wear your bow tie to an evening party or get together and turn heads for sure. I wore the bow tie with my black Bata flats but you can wear them with wedges or heels to add some spice.

4. Hairband

One of my favourite looks. The sash is my favourite when I use it as a hairband every now and then. You just take it around your head and place it where you want then just do a simple knot. The hairband with a wider cloth was used or rather seen more often during older times hence it is considered very retro in nature. Wear the hairband to college, to school and for any outing. The best part is that you can dress it up or down, the hairband is that awesome. I used bangles to jazz the look.

Outfit details:

You can find this Sash at American Apparel. Available in about 28 colours and patterns for $8 only. Click HERE to shop this sash.

While I wore this sash in about 8 different ways, I've shared the first four with you this time. I'll surely share the rest of them soon enough. Keep a look out for the versatility series as there's lot in store for you on this series and you can revamp your closet and make it all new without spending a single penny. Just some reuse techniques.

Also, this is one of last few posts with not so amazing pictures, got a better camera thanks to grandfather. So you'll see good pictures soon. :)

Till then,

Denim Crazy.

Hello people of the world.

I am back with yet another post! I'm overwhelmed that you'll are missing me on all the social media platforms, thanks for the mails! I'm fine, just pre-occupied with college and having tons of fun!

I'll be visiting all your blogs during weekends and definitely not neglect them, so don't worry okay?

You must be happy for me right? Moving on straight to business, or rather style tips. Today I'm back with yet another query of a lot of my readers. I finally decided to do a post and tell you what I mean by all the replies.

I introduced all of you to the new Imran Collection by Denizen in my previous post and today I'm going to be showing you something similar. :D HERE

How to wear men's shirts?
1. Men's shirts are not only amazingly comfortable but are over-sized and in style, if you know to carry it off you definitely will rock your wardrobe.
2. When you wear a men's shirt for the first time, try wearing it like a jacket as it is the best way to pair it and make it look sporty yet cool.
3. After you are more comfortable with it, go bold wear it as a shirt with trousers or maybe jeans and rock the androgynous style.
4. Never forget that you still are a girl so add your girly feminine touch with accessories or shoes.
5. Remember that you can wear the shirt the way you want, be it a feminine androgyny or just all masculine. But if you believe in your look, everyone will.

The Imran Connection- Denizen India

A few weeks back we saw the launch party pictures which took place in Mumbai in a lot of fellow blogger's posts. Today, I''m going to tell you a lot more about the Special Denizen collection in association with Imran Khan.

Firstly, I was really lucky to be able to get my questions answered by the designer himself. I put across some questions lingering at the back of my head about this collection. Before we head to the question section, I'd like to share with you a collage of a few pictures from the launch of the collection in Mumbai, which I was unable to attend as you all know I am in Bangalore.

Some of my favourite pieces from the collection:

Chit-Chat with Imran Khan

1. What according to you makes your clothing line different from all the other celebrity turned designer clothing lines?

There is often a disconnect between the people who make clothes and the people who wear them. Whatever I own or buy, the idea is to make it unique and individual and make it what I am. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make a difference. For example, with the shirts, if you feel the material or wear them you’ll see they are very light and comfortable where most other brands the material tends to be thick and heavier. Also, I carry two mobile phones and put one in each pocket, so they tend to leave a distinct marking on the material of the jeans. So we’ve done that as a design on the pockets of a pair of dENiZEN jeans so it looks like you’re carrying two phones.

2. While summer is coming to an end, do you think this line of clothes you've introduced can move on to be a rage during monsoon..?

Yes, I think this collection can be worn during the monsoons too as the material used is very light and comfortable.

3. Things you had most fun with while coming up with this line?

There are small things that are unique to the collection. For example, that canvas patch on the back pocket of the jeans. Do you remember the canvas shoes we used to wear for physical training in school? I bought a pair of those recently. That rough texture on them that looks unique after being worn down, that’s what I liked. So I used that.

I also love the color red and tried incorporating it in the collection in varied ways like, the red rivet on the coin pocket, the inner stitching of the jeans and the last button of all the shirts are red.
My friends call me Wikipedia, because I know a lot of things and when my friends need to know about something they ask me. And then I say, ‘Did you know…?” which is a catchphrase of sorts for me. So we put that on a t-shirt.

4. Any muses behind the clothing line? Where do you seek inspiration from?

I’m a big denim geek myself in terms of the type of denim, the cut, the types of washes. We actually worked in great depth in selecting what type of denim we used. We used a slightly premium type of denim, which is the highest quality denim in the world. For the summer collection the idea was to use lighter denims, lighter washes and lighter colours.

All the jeans have the signature red zipper ribbon; they have a canvas label instead of the leather one you find on most jeans. That’s because it has a unique look and feel, which is handmade. The jeans have my signature on the inside. A lot of the stuff won’t be visible on the outside but you’ll feel happy when you wear them; it feels good to you. It’s not to show someone else.

5. Have you always wanted to be a designer?

I’ve always dreamt of having a pair of jeans with my name on it.

6. When will you release a woman's clothing line, we are eagerly looking forward to it?

We’re already working on a women’s line. That will be for the Fall-Winter collection. And in the meantime, you can always wear one of the shirts –guys love seeing girls in men shirts

7. Who is your style icon?

My style icon have always been guys who have had a very strong personal sense of their own style. Guys like Steve McQueen, Robert Redford, Paul Newman. These are the guys I’ve really admired.

And that, was Imran Khan, the designer of the collection for you. Now you know a lot more about his collection and I am pretty sure you definitely want to go and grab one. While this one might be the men's collection, there's no doubt that a girl can walk away in the shirts with just as much oomph and style.

To show you more on that, I will be doing an outfit post on a piece from the collection. Make sure you stay tuned to the blog. Here's a special preview for you'll!

Till next time

Who Shines? (III)

And we're back with the third part in the Who Shines? series on the blog. I'm really glad you'll are loving this series, the responses by mail have been overwhelming, but please understand that for your vote to count, you need to use the vote meter at the end of the post to vote for your favourite look.

Last week's WHO SHINES? winner was Gwenyth Paltrow! With a whooping 65 percent. Wohooooo :D

Let's have a look at this week's celebs battling it out to shine the most. While I'd like to apologize in advance for the blurry pictures, I just had to do this look on a Who Shines series no matter what.

This week, we have Taylor Swift and Pixie Lott. This Catherine Dilligan dress with sharp features and some intricate details was chosen by both the stars for a red carpet event.

While Taylor Swift wore the edgy look with peeptoes, a black clutch and no accessories, she added a self touch with the curly locks and the adorable smile. Everyone definitely fell for it as always. She wore this look first to the Pre Grammy Gala in Feb 2009.

Pixie Lott, known for her edginess, sports this silver and black look later the same year, at the GQ Men of the Year Award in London. She wore the dress with black shoes, and added a chunky arm party. With her smart hairstyle and funky smile, she rocked the carpet and grabbed glances.

Its upto you to decide. Who shines in this black and silver dress?

Is it Taylor or Pixie?

VOTING HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED.

Don't forget to leave your vote, every vote counts.

 Love,
Sonshu

Music Monday- 4

I know. Don't give me that disgusting look okay? So I'm doing this Music Monday post after ages I think, and I finally realized that I should do one because I stumbled upon this brilliant song that is definitely worth sharing with my brilliant readers.

As you all know college has been keeping me occupied, but I promise to post Music Monday's every week. (Okay don't roll your eyes.) I will post. Now and then, so stay tuned for brilliant songs.

Can't Go Back Now- The Weepies.

I am not sure if a lot of you have heard of this band. Basically The Weepies is an Indie duo, Deb Talan and Steve Tannen and their music compilations. They've recently done an educational video for children with PBS Kids. This video features a cartoon that looks almost identical to both of them. The song not only has a phenomenal message to convey, but also brings about a sort of deep connect with most listeners, me included.

Yesterday, when you were young,
Everything you needed done was done for you.
Now you do it on your own
But you find you're all alone,
What can you do?

You and me walk on
Cause you can't go back now.

You know there will be days when you're so tired that you can't take another step,
The night will have no stars and you'll think you've gone as far as you will ever get

The lyrics somehow speak of things everyone will go through with passing time. That only brings out the beauty of the song, but also the adorable cartoons and the video touches your heart. This is a song everyone will love.

That was the song of the week, and I will return next week with another interesting song that you will love.

In the mean time get in touch with me on info@thesonshu.com or via Facebook or Twitter to share your favourite songs with me, or tell me what you thought of this song.

Love,
Sonshu

When life takes over.

Sometimes, doing what your heart says might just be the right thing, because the brain can be a bit of an over-thinker you know? I know many of you have been eagerly waiting to know how college is going and all the spicy and juicy details, but behold, you shall get them when the time is right, and until then more sneak peaks of details like this now and then.

When you want to do something, you should totally go ahead and do it no matter what anyone says or who stops you from doing it, because you are your only hero. And I should totally stop shooting random lines like this in the air, before one of you shoots me.

I know I haven't been visiting blogs often, but that's because I come online only during the weekends, so I will catch up with whatever is happening on all your blogs during this period, please forgive me?

Coming to the outfit post, this week I played around with one colour and its different shades. As you can see the basic shade I played around with was pink, and used other overlapping colours to create this outfit.

How to play with colours?

1. The best part about colours is that most colours are cordial with each other, so unless you think of something really crazy, you will get it right most of the times.
2. You can keep a base colour like I did and play around with different shades of the colour. In my case, pink and its shades: baby pink, hot pink, burgundy, just pink, magenta etc.
3. In order to add some funk to your outfit, avoid sticking to one colour alone and try mixing other pops of colours too, unless you are looking for mono chrome.
4. When playing with colours, you can go crazy with your hairdos. I've used a slight puff and bun hairdo, you can try braids, sleek ponytails, styled hair, curls and what not. Experiment is the key word!
5. If playing with colours through outfits is not your thing, you can definitely try it with nails. Some crazy nail art if your best colour playing game. Go ahead already!

Leaving you with a little something:

Waving frantically across the lawn,
he finally turns and glances
She smiles her heart out and it becomes dawn,
he thinks of the times he gave her chances

They walk towards each other and are lost in a gaze,
The world seems ablaze
Love is a feeling,
a fire in reeling
And all was back again...

And until next time,
Don't forget to tell me what you thought of the post.

Who Shines? (II)

I'm back again for a Who Shines? series. This time we have an Emilio Pucci gown. This gown in itself is extremely controversial, and to top it, these two extremely hot and most talked about women wearing it, definitely called for a Who Shines? post on that!

While Kim Kardashian, wore the see through look with dangler earrings and kept the accessories minimal otherwise. She didn't mind showing off her curvalicious body. While it grabbed some eyes and raised some brows, she definitely took everyone by storm with her bold style statement as always. She went with her usual sleek hair pulled up in a ponytail look. She received a rather mixed opinion.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore this look a lot earlier at the Emmy's and everyone loved it! She wore her hair straight, tiny drop down earrings and two bracelets. She wore her adorable smile and yet managed to look sexy and definitely the mesh factor worked like wonder for her. While her fans went drooling, a lot of stylists adored the look.

Now the decision is upto you. Who Shines in this Emilio Pucci mesh gown? Go ahead and vote. :D Voting closes in two days.

VOTING WIDGET HAS BEEN REMOVED BECAUSE VOTING HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED.

Neonize

Hello there again,

A lot of you have been asking me why I haven't said anything about how college is yet. Yes, I tweeted and fbed a lot about how vacations were coming to an end, and yes college has begun. I've actually been absorbing the whole new scene and its very overwhelming, the events and people, but I can already sense that its going to be an experience I'll remember for a lifetime or more.

How I look at it: Every new day is another chance for me to dress up and go to college and have some fun, study, have fun etc. So the part about you'll that comes into place, is that you get to see a lot of outfits. While we have the fresher's week this week end, I'm excited, so will tell you more as and when it comes into focus.

A question I often get asked is: How do you manage to wear neons? While it might seem very difficult, and not wearable, it actually is pretty statement making and wonderful. So today, I'll be telling you, how to wear neons.

How to wear neons in style?

1. Neons are not only in fashion, but are also excellent to wear to fun places, or major events. When wearing neon to a party, always mix it with classy and subtle pieces to rock the look.
2. Wearing neons to carnivals, flea markets and such events is a great idea, as a lot of people will actually appreciate it. Wear them with chunky necklaces and dont be afraid to experiment.
3. If you're a starter to neon, go with lighter neon shades, but if you want to take a dive, then go ahead and plunge into the depths of the colour and mix and match your way into it.
4. A great way to wear neons is through accessories, sport neon chains(available at Zara), bracelets (available at Zara and Accessorize), shoes, hair clips etc.

Now, for the pictures:

Details:
Tube top: Nuon
Pants: Allen Solly
Neon Button up: c/o American Apparel (HERE)
Make up pouch used as Purse: c/o American Apparel (HERE)
Collar necklace: DIY (Need to get sturdy chains: note to self)
On my lips: Nyx: Addis Ababa

The tube top is a favourite and you should always stock up on such coloured pieces in different patterns as they can always work any outfit, the neon button up was sent by American Apparel and I instantly loved it. The colour might be weird to some, but I loved it. It can be worn in other ways, will definitely show you'll other ways I wore it soon. The make up purse by them again, is so soft and actually good enough to work as a clutch, and since it was purple I took advantage and matched it with my shoes. The collar necklace is a DIY, need to re do the chain part of it!

Actually had a lot of fun shooting for this outfit, wore it here and there. I mean, neon does attract weird glances in India, but then again, who cares? Give people a reason to stare, as they say.

And with that, I sign off for today. Off to prepare for class tomorrow.

What did you think of this outfit? Any tips you use while wearing neon?

Black is timeless.

The best part about taking a break is that you realize how much you value something and as they sometimes say 'a break is always welcome'. If you'll have been following me closely on the blog, you'll would have noticed that May was crazy, with posts overflowing almost every day, and June was rather close with sufficient activity. However now that college has begun, its important to prioritize. I could never leave blogging as a back hand thing because its been special to me for years, however college is an experience I don't want to lose out on. So bear with me and the irregularities but I shall definitely do my best to schedule posts to keep you'll occupied in my absence.

As you can see, the blog has undergone a makeover and is still in the process of some changes. A very special person has been helping me with some of it, who I will tell you about sooner or later.

Keep looking out for the changes that'll be happening in the blog.

Enough chatter?

-----

Rooja.com is a luxury e-retail store that has a membership by invitation approach. They basically hold a variety of sales everyday, and that not only gives you a wide range to choose from but also an array of brands to look at. All these products are absolutely hand-picked and that makes it all the more interesting and authentic.

Rooja's tagline is : Feel Special. That is like their belief or a statement they stand by and I think it definitely comes across in all their products. From shoes, to bags to home ware to everything. You name it, they have it. And the sales are absolutely steal worthy. From the current Coach sale to the fast ending Clae Shoes. They seem to have it all. And the best part it that you can actually see what's upcoming so you won't miss out on your favourites.

Apart from the timely sales for men and women, they also have an in house boutique. They have brands like Qupid shoes for women, Vanilla Bay, Minimum for men, etc.

When Raj sent over this Eralu handbag from Rooja, I was extremely impressed. The package arrived in a purple and white box, neatly wrapped in pretty purple paper and doesn't that melt a girls heart enough? It also had a pretty hand written note and the fragrance that you instantly got when you opened the box was breathtaking. I wish I'd taken pictures of the box, but excitement had me crazy.

Its been quite a long time since I received the bag, and the post was on hold. I used the bag to college, to the mall and to almost everywhere for a week or so, putting it through extreme usage and still it looked brand new. The golden chain like panels are not only unique but add bling to any outfit. I was quite skeptic about the shiny shiny gold thing at first, but later on I actually began loving it.

Here's how I styled the Eralu Bag. The bag can be worn in many other ways, which I will be showing you'll soon. :D
